The young clarets are 3-1 up away at fulham. See this through and they have a 2 legged semi against the young chicken farmers.

I'm not laughing Alfie, they'll not let even a couple of thousand of us loose over Blackburn way, we'll be on the buses again, mark my words.

A fantastic achievement, and I hope they enjoy the experience of the semi finals, as it will be very different than anything they've experienced so far.

Well done lads.

I think they are the dates they have to be played by CNB, although there's a chance there could be a Friday game in there.

I think it was CW, that long ago now I can't really remember the scores. I can remember Alan Whittle, with his blond hair, playing for Everton. He was going to be a superstar, but we had several of them in our team.

The 68 team soapy ? As far as I can remember.

McEvoy
Jones,Cliff
Docherty, Wrigley, West
Probert, Brown, Thomas, Kindon.

Not sure about the right-wing, it was either Hartley or Coppock, one played one was sub, can't remember which.

I played against Gerry McEvoy when he was in goal for, I think, Pike Hill, about ten years later, and I do believe the Coventry keeper in the final was none other than David Icke.

No bc, just the home matches. I was describing the final to my wife just a couple of hours ago. I remember the atmosphere which was very different from normal games at the turf at that time.....I really enjoyed that game and the future it appeared to promise. If at all possible I think I will be at the home tie.

Bordeaux, the 2nd leg v Coventry was my first venture onto the turf...i was only 4 yr old but i can still vividly picture the celebrations at the end, although i have no recollection of formation or players positions i would have thought Thomas would have been on the wing with Hartley playing inside forward..?

According to wikipedia Hartley did start with coppock sub

I'm pushing my memory a bit here FL but I'm fairly sure the wingers were Hartley and Kindon, Dave Thomas was more of an inside-forward in his early days. I think.(Sm14)

A fair number from that team did go on to become full pro's, either for us or other teams. What a remarkable time it must have been to be a Burnley fan.

The second leg must have been played 22 days before I was born

Just come across this on the Longside.info re: the Lancashire youth cup in the mid 90s LINK

9,000 on a youth game, not bad. Still very few, from both teams, who went on to have successful careers though, particularly when compared to that team above.

There are some well known names in that team Longsiders but imo, the best of the lot was Peter Jones. I think he broke his leg and ended up at Swansea for a few seasons but he was probably the best young full-back I've ever seen. Willie Brown was as good as any of them as well, but ended up in the lower divisions. It was a fairly awesome team, virtually no weak links.

It wasn't long after this game that our kids put five past dirty Leeds. Happy days indeed. Thank god we never knew what was coming.(Sm14)

Aye it was a good day Brian, and Leeds were in their Revie/Bremner/Giles inspired, snarling, kicking pomp as well. Very nice to watch them slink off with their tails between their legs.

Daft of the Club to give out free tickets. Could have made some brass there. No sense in that at all.

Had to do it really as soon as rovers gave free tickets for their season ticket holders. Can't see em losing out on much money in the grand scheme of things at a fiver a pop for adults.

Ah, didn't know that, that's fair enough then, how silly are Rovers - knobs.

Pointless. I guarantee noone is that tight that they wouldnt go because it's five English pounds even though they wanted to - but would for free.

On the flipside, if someone's not interested, doesn't want to go, can't make it, has other plans, ain't that fussed, can't get away from work, lives to far away, has noone to go with or can't afford the petrol then they won't change their mind over a five pound saving just to 'fill a seat and create an atmosphere'.
