FAO ManHug - ST. Paddy's Day....Ideas.

MH, you know Manchester quite well....a few of my mates are looking at going round Manchester on the 17th and asked me (Why I don't know) about boozers etc....

As you are into "Days out"....what would your advice be?

Why do you say I know Manchester quite well?

You need to be doing 'pubs' rather than flamboyant bars and with it being a big City, ideally you need a route so that youre not wasting time wandering about. You want the 'route' to take you through different areas though such as Picadilly, Portland St, Castlefield and Deansgate.

Ill note some pubs down here and then see if I can put a 'route' together later.

Monroes, Waldorf, Brunswick, Mother Macs, Shakespeare, Unicorn, English Lounge, Peveril Of The Peak, The Deansgate, The Rising Sun, Sawyers Arms, Sinclairs Oyster Bar, Circus Tavern, Grey Horse Inn, Old Monkey, Britons Protection, Corbieres, Mr Thomas' Chop House.

You want to be avoiding The Printworks and all the 'named' bard on Deansgate and King Street areas such as All Bar One, Walkabout, The Living Room, Lime and Wetherspoons etc.

That's a good list with proper boozers and it has a couple of my favourites on it. Good advice on where to avoid too.

Which are your favourites Troot? Peak has to be mine, Sawyers is very honest too.

Chorley, there is one that I know of, in Printworks with the rest of the scrote bars. I'd avoid that place, you won't have a solid day out there.

If it's Irish boozers they want then surely they could Google? Is that what you're after, or reverting to your initial post are you wanting my advice on where to go?

Paddys Day- Let`s all go out, drink Guinness and enjoy ourselves.

St George`s Day - Put your flags etc away so not to offend others, stay in and watch our once great Country continue to get over-run with foreigners and the PC brigade !!

3 of your slushers all on this pic ManHug.

Have been in the Old Monkey, didn't like it, really scruffy.

Love the Grey Horse obviously, and have never done the Circus Tavern sad smiley.

Youre welcome.

Avoid Canal Street too, thats queer village although they probably know that.

LC, Circus Tavern has the funniest bar in the world - its like a tuck shop.

ManHug, my favourite is the Rising Sun followed by Sawyers and the Circus Tavern. Used to like the Old Monkey back in the day, though it hasn't been a patch on its old self the last few times I've been in the pub. Last time I was in the place the barmaid, in the bar upstairs, was loudly effing & jeffing with a bunch of scroats who were sat near the bar.

I too can't be doing with any of the chav bars in the Printworks or on Deansgate/King Street. I try to avoid d1ckheads in my everyday life, so why go for a beer or three only to be surrounded by hundreds of them.

Rising Sun is a hidden gem, such a strange layout.

Whereas Sawyers stands proudly and honestly on the corner for all to see!!! grinning smiley

Great pubs in Manc.

Just a shame on work nights out and when were meeting clients/companies etc they seen to think that these places (All Bar One, Velvet in 'The Village', The Living Room etc) are the place to go.

Erm, no ta.

Circus Tavern smiling smiley

Smallest alehouse int' World?

I work pretty much just behind that strip of pubs photo's, just to the right.

There is a brothel next to Grey Horse Inn grinning smiley

I know the pubs from too many all-dayers over the years.

Mind you, it did help at first, having a few mates who are Citeh fans and know how to sniff out a good pub or two.

Can anyone remember the name of the pub that used to be on Market St across from the Arndale Centre. The one where you went down some very narrow stairs to get to the bar?

It was the roughest sh1thole in the town centre. Full of characters, roughs, smacked headed wh0res and mentals. It's where we used to start off on the p1ss because it opened at ten in the morning. Never saw any trouble in the place but plenty of shoplifters selling their ill gotten wares and people trying to scrounge ciggs or a quid towards their beer.

I don't think the building is a pub or bar anymore, MH.

We were only talking about the place the other day and none of us could remember its name.

I'm amazed ANY pub is smaller than the Grey Horse.

Shappie - do you remember the Grey Horse? It was the first one we went in the night of your stag do.

Get 4 people in and it's rammed.
