Raith game
23 September, 2017 19:28
I was not expecting much of a positive nature and indeed we did lose but it was a much more spirited performance than last week. Conroy/Hastie out to be replaced by Cairns in midfield and Cammy Russell out wide left, whilst Furtado played through the centre. His pace and strength did cause them some problems and he had at least three good shots saved by the goalie in first half. The pity was that he was largely on his own for most of the spell before they took the lead. That came from a corner where Ferguson had two hands on the ball but spilled it (again?) and it was disappointing to concede just as Raith were getting frustrated. We had made life hard for them for most of the game and largely negated their open play . Vaughan tho' was hard to pin down but they stuck at it. Some good attacks but they had the bulk of the second half and it was mainly counter attacks. The defence allowed Zanatta to break across the box and fire in a hard shot for 2-0 but it looked to go right under Ferguson. Two blatant dives by Raith forwards were yellow carded by Matt Northcroft although he was a bit generous with a fierce challenge on Russell by Thomson. Watt had a very good game and could easily have been in their team/Furtado had some great attempts and with a bit more support before they scored , might have snatched a lead. The back four stuck well to their game and although we lost, it was not the predicted gubbing. Next week versus QP is more crucial given where we are in the League especially one where the Rovers score 5 away from home and Arbroath cuff Stranraer-what a day!

If we had played like that last week it would have been a different story ,keeper again could have done better, the difference the day could have been Andy Ryan he would have earned us a draw at least. If we can keep playing like that though it will come good ,and win our fair share, not all doom and gloom.

Team played well ,but Furtado will never be a Andy Ryan, and the obvious weakness is still there ,every keeper will make some good saves when a lot of shots are coming at him,it's the crosses and handling has never improved, just my opinion.

Surely it has been obvious over last season and into this one that the goalie is just about adequate at shot stopping, but absolutely useless at handling crosses.
I went to the friendly game this season(v Stirling) hoping things had improved, but he was still an absolute bomb scare with his handling, actually palming one into his own net.
He regularly gets defended on "pie and Bovril", but nothing seems to change and we will continue to lose simple goals due to this glaring weakness.
Unfortunately, it is something we will just have to live with.

Don't disagree with you about his dealing with crosses etc and the highlights confirm what I thought yesterday but I think the friendly game where he made an even worse error as you say, was against Clyde at Broadwood? We are stuck with him unless Motherwell need him!( and presumably the unknown transfer fee we got/wage bill reduction might allow us to survive) Defending or attacking him on P/B will make no real difference.
