Sir Sidney, you know as well as I do that politics and religion, and, yes, even which football team a person supports, have everything to do with politics in the Monklands.

When I first started with the cooncil, all those years ago, one of the first questions almost everyone asked was "What school did you go to?" Or, "Which fit dae ye kick wi'?" if they were being even more blunt. There was also the "Whit team de ye support?" Ask anyone that ever worked for the cooncil, and they'll tell you this was commonplace. What school you went to, if it didn't begin with 'Saint', hampered your prospects for advancement...unless you were married to a cooncilor's relative. That was politics and religion in the mix. And, yes, football as well. It was all Labour Party stuff, so it was (andis) all tied together. Don't you see that?

What I was originally trying to say, in my own way, was that Ms Nash probably wouldn't have been picked as Kevorkian's Parliamentary researcher based on her abilities alone. Religion, I suspect, played a large part in that. But that was a small part of my point.

The national Labour Party made it policy to have all-female shortlists, which is an absolute disgrace. Any party should be slated for such practices; male-, female-, Muslim-, Jew- or whatever-only shortlists. That she was chosen, at 25 years-old and only a few years out of school/university/college, and with little experience of living and working in the real world, shows the utter contempt that the local Labour Party has for the voters of the area. They're putting a virtual unknown into a Labour safe seat, and that, as far as I am concerned, is to prove that no matter what or who they put forward in this area, the blinkered fools will still vote for him/her/it if it represents Labour.

So you are all happy the way labour waste our cash year after year and put the country into more and more debt?
Will you be happy when labour make us use the euro? and give away all control to europe.
Remind us what the SNP policy on Europe and the Euro is then?

Polomint, away back into yer packet! I pay my income tax, Council Tax and all other dues and, being over 18, am perfectly entitled to vote for whomsoever I choose, for whatever reason; if I choose anti-Scottish Nationalism as my main concern then that is my perogative; others may vote on religious issues, social class issues or whatever else they deem to be important.

Just what I was about to say. Perhaps he can remind us of which 2 banks from Scotland make up £500 billion of the debt taken on by the British Government? He can then tell us what the mighty SNP would have done to save RBS and HBOS and 20,000 jobs.
Please also remind us Weasel how the Lockerbie (3 months to live) bomber is getting on and wasn't it nice of Nicola to write a letter for a convicted benefit cheat who was going to court for stealing another £80k via fraud.
@#$%& all obviously.

They saved the Monklands though. There's no Doctors or nurses to go in it and the NHS just cut the budget elsewhere, but it was a victory never the less.

Was in Ghana for a fortnight with work and came back last Friday and was at a rugby day out on the Saturday and then a major hangover on the Sunday. I am therefore "grounded" for a few weeksgrinning smiley

As Dekker says, what is the alternative though? a Scottish Independnce party is inotlerable. I will vote Scottish Unionst Party as per usualy but the only party who stand a chance of beating Labour are the SNP, and Labour are preferable to them.
To be fair Sophia Coyle from the SNP is a wee darling.
That's a labour education for you!

I'm totally against enforced shortlist of candidates being foisted on local parties, irrespective of the make up of those lists, however this thread has far too much mention of the religeon, school and even speculation of which team the candidate may support, the assumption is she even likes football.
This has ZERO to do with politics and more to do with the vile mud slinging that saw an SNP blogger smear a tragic 18 year old who died near the Glasgow council building as having died after taking drugs.

Everyone is entitled to their political beliefs, but when they border on sectarianism, it's going too far, especially as this is a football forum.

Time you started to read between the lines Sam(Sm102)
As you started mud slinging about about an SNP Blogger, at least give us a link.

Dr Reid has his political beliefs. He taught many Labour party members the words of the IRA songbook, according to George Galloway. He was complicit in the underhand dealings which put convicted IRA terrorists back on the streets.
This woman has been groomed by him to succeed him, so I'm afraid the points are very valid. I'm sure she has also been well schooled by him on how to complete her expenses as well.

The voters of Airdrie are in the main Labour. That doesn't mean they have to be trampled on. They are being forced to accept a candidate who may not be the best or most suitable, as someone said "because she has a vagina".

Let's get real here.
Labour WILL lose the next election.
There will not be a SNP majority for Scotland at Westminster.
So an SNP win in Airdrie is not going to deliver us into a independant Scotland.

Now is the time to give Labour the kick up the @#$%& they so richly deserve. The SNP is their only credible challenge. Vote SNP and give Labour a bloody nose. Let them know that next time they get in here they will have to deliver, not TAKE, TAKE, TAKE>

I see that the Sunday mail are giving her a full page spread on how she was selected, with x-factor style sad bit included. Pitching for the sympathy vote.

No need to quote a link Cass, every Scottish news channel and Newspaper carried the story, also the blogger involved made an apology.

As for your political statements, my post concerned the tone of the inappropriate statements made, if I want to talk politics, I'll visit an appropriate forum, You're only too aware of my antipathy for the "Prince of smug", Alex (baw face) Salmond as I am of your hatred of everything New Labour, but this is not the forum to discuss it with you.

I shall now retire to the moral high ground.

SNP and credible in the same sentence....like trying to segway Hitler and bar mitzvah.

By voting for the xenophobic idiot party you do not give labour a bloody nose you give respectable scottish citizens a red neck.

You seem to be confusing Xenophobe:
A person unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, especially of strangers or foreign peoples.

With Nationalist:
Devotion to the interests or culture of one's nation.

The SNP aren't the ones bombing the @#$%& out of Afghanistan.

no that will be a United Nations led mission.

Salmond and his merry band of ingrates often make jaw droppingly idiotic statements about perfectly acceoptable use of international force to avoid global problems.

I reference
...
ALEX SALMOND, the Scottish National Party leader, prompted government outrage at Westminster yesterday when he became the first British party leader to attack the legality of the bombings and compared them to the London Blitz.

If your going to try and make a silly parochial statements at least try and research beyond something one of the Scottish National Muppet Show stars erroneously bleats on about on the god awful Newsnight Jockland.

Had you said Iraq you might have had a point.

As for your explanation of xenophobia you've only cemented my point.

Did anyone have the misfortune to see his speech yesterday, when he told his gathered party they were lucky to have someone like Nichola Sturgeon, her problem is that she is too compassionate, what a load of bollocks,

Eh?

Imagine liking another sport apart from "fitba" eh? After watching how bad Scottish football was again today when St Mirren cannot beat 9 men from one half of the old firm, then my leanings towards rugby just get stronger.

Thanks for your comments anyway you príck!
